Code of Practice
In conjunction with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), the UKTFA have developed
a Health & Safety Code of Practice. The following extract from the foreword
to this document by HSE gives a good background.
“The UK Timber Frame industry, along with others in the construction sector faces
many challenges in maintaining safe places of work. Too many people are injured,
killed or suffer ill health as a result of their work activities. The Timber
Frame industry is aware that more needs to be done to control the risks from working
at height, slips and trips, manual handling and many other significant workplace
hazards; this Code of Practice sets out the management and operational standards
that the HSE will expect to be adopted by all those involved with the supply and
erection of timber frame structures, from houses to multi-story buildings.
This is a Code developed and implemented by the UK timber frame industry in partnership
with the HSE, and compliance with it will help to protect workers, clients and
members of the public. HSE inspectors will take cognisance of this Code of Practice
when visiting sites involving the erection of timber frames, and will look to
all CDM duty holders to have done likewise.”
The consultation period is now over. The committee has now considered all suggestions
submitted and the current and live document is now available. Click here for download.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed during the consultation process.
